US quality control and third-party testing

Every Healius batch is tested by our US-based quality control team using HPLC for purity and mass spectrometry for identity, then sent to an independent ISO 17025-accredited third-party laboratory for blind verification before release. Dual-tested in the US before any vial ships. Both datasets are published in the Certificate of Analysis that ships with every order.

How to read your Healius Certificate of Analysis

Every Healius peptide ships with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis. The document is the primary quality record for your vial and is built around six fields that every researcher should be able to verify before reconstituting.

Header block

The top of the COA lists the product name, common synonyms, the peptide amino acid sequence, the molecular formula, the calculated molecular weight, the salt form (typically acetate), and the net peptide content of the vial in milligrams. Cross-check these values against the vial label and the product page before use.

Batch identifiers

Directly under the header you will find the lot number, the date of manufacture, the date of retest where applicable, and the recommended storage temperature. The lot number is the key you use in the search above to retrieve a specific COA. Always log it in your research notebook alongside your experimental data.

Appearance and physical properties

A visual inspection line confirms the appearance of the lyophilized cake (typically white or off-white, free flowing). Any deviation from the reference appearance triggers a hold and a batch investigation before release.

Purity by HPLC or UPLC

The most important line on the COA. The numerical purity percentage is calculated from the area of the main peptide peak as a fraction of total area across the chromatographic run at a defined UV wavelength (typically 214 nm). The method (reversed-phase UPLC on a C18 column with a water/acetonitrile/formic acid mobile phase gradient) is printed below the result. The minimum release specification is 99.0%. The full chromatogram is embedded in the COA PDF.

Identity by mass spectrometry

The identity block reports the expected molecular mass of the synthesised sequence and the observed m/z from electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. A pass result requires the observed mass to match the expected mass within plus or minus 0.5 Da. The full MS trace is embedded in the COA PDF.

Third-party verification block

Below the in-house analytics, the COA lists the independent laboratory that verified the batch, the identifier of the verification certificate, the date of the external run, and the purity and identity results reported by that laboratory. This block is the proof that the data was not generated only in-house.

Release signature

The footer carries the name, signature and title of the releasing analyst, plus a digital hash that links the PDF to the archive record. Any COA edited after signature will fail its hash check.

Our independent third-party testing programme

In-house quality control catches most problems. Independent verification catches the ones that in-house quality control misses. Healius runs a formal third-party testing programme: every new batch released to the catalog is analyzed for identity and purity at one of two ISO 17025 accredited contract laboratories before any vial enters saleable inventory.

Why third-party testing matters

Internal QC is subject to systematic bias even in the most rigorous laboratories. Instruments drift, reagents go off specification, reference standards age, and analysts develop habits. Independent verification is the only mechanism that exposes systematic bias because the external lab runs the method on different instruments, with different reagents, under different analysts, using an independent reference standard.

How the programme works

When a batch has cleared in-house UPLC and mass spectrometry, the releasing analyst pulls two representative aliquots from the bulk. One aliquot remains in the internal reference library. The second aliquot is assigned a blinded code and sent for external verification.

The external laboratory receives the aliquot with the blinded code only. They do not know the batch number, the expected purity, or our in-house result. They run their own identity and purity panel using their own reference standard and return the raw analytical output directly to our quality team.

Our quality team reconciles the external result against the internal result. Both data sets must meet 99.0% purity and match on identity. If the external result contradicts the internal result, the batch is held and an investigation protocol is triggered before any further action.

The external laboratory certificate is then attached in full to the Healius Certificate of Analysis PDF for the batch. The COA displays the external laboratory name, the certificate identifier, the date of the external run, and the reported purity and identity values.

Lab rotation and accreditation

We rotate between two ISO 17025 accredited external laboratories on a batch-by-batch basis to prevent the programme from drifting toward any single analytical house. ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard for the technical competence and impartiality of testing and calibration laboratories. Both laboratories hold current ISO 17025 accreditation specifically for the analytical methods we commission (reversed-phase UPLC with UV/DAD detection plus electrospray ionization mass spectrometry).

Extended panels for partner accounts

Beyond the standard release panel of identity, purity and net content, we commission extended analytical work for selected batches and for institutional buyers on request. Extended panels include residual solvent screening against ICH Q3C limits, water content by Karl Fischer titration, counter ion identification, and bioburden or endotoxin testing. Email support@healiuspeptides.com if your research protocol requires an extended panel.

Peptide lab testing FAQs

Peptide lab testing is the analytical workflow used to confirm the purity and identity of a research peptide batch before it enters saleable inventory. The standard panel is reversed-phase HPLC (or UPLC) for purity measurement and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for molecular identity confirmation. Healius runs both methods in house for every batch and then commissions independent third-party verification before release.

Use the Certificate of Analysis search above. Enter the lot number printed on your vial label or the product name. The matching COA PDF returns as an immediate download and contains the HPLC chromatogram, mass spectrometry trace, identity confirmation, purity percentage, batch date, and the third-party laboratory verification record. Learn more about how to read a COA on our lab testing page.

Yes. Every batch undergoes two rounds of analytical testing before release: internal HPLC and mass spectrometry run by our US quality control team, followed by independent verification at an ISO 17025 accredited external laboratory. Both data sets are published on the Certificate of Analysis that ships with every order. See our full third-party testing programme at lab testing.

99% or higher purity by HPLC. The specification is hard: batches that do not meet 99%+ HPLC purity are rejected before release. The HPLC purity reading for your specific batch is shown on the Certificate of Analysis attached to your order.
